Pixie Pants

September 26, 2012

I'm going to have a go at making some lovely warm, wool, botanical themed pants for my little girl.

The picture I have in mind is of old fashioned knickerbockers or maybe pantaloons?  The type men would wear while dueling with swords.  Bunchy and roomy with a three-quarter leg and worn over tights.  Cute :)

I have a little bit of pink blanket wool leftover from a Dandelion Coat which will be great to make the basic trouser with.  Of course then they will need some hand embroidery. Wildflowers will be sweet, including a dandelion of course!

Hmmm pleats on a waistband or simple elastic?  Will need to accommodate a cloth nappy underneath too.

I might have a little play with some ideas in the studio tomorrow...

Woodland for Girls

September 05, 2012

Thought I would share with you this yummy cape I made recently for a little girl in the States.  I love woodland colours, they are great for boys - but so gorgeously huggable for girls too don't you think?

Another opportunity to use one of my hand-made Pohutukawa Tree buttons for the fastener. The second batch of Pohutukawa buttons we made were quite large (they are amazing), but the buttonholer on my machine doesn't make holes large enough to accommodate them, so I fashioned a loop made from the lining fabric and it works really well.

I simply had to make her a wee matching bunny with the leftover wool.  Wouldn't be right not to!

The size of these capes are amazing.  Poppet is 16 months in the first pic, and the other lovely model is 6 years old in the same cape!  My kind of garment :)

I wish these lovely woodland colours were easier to come by.  This particular piece was a very lucky find, and I only have enough for one more cape or coat now.  Hopefully the very last one will go to another special little person who will love adventuring in it - maybe even in the woods?
