Embroidered Fabric Buckets

March 07, 2013

For ages our little girl's blocks have been stored in a cardboard box in the corner of the lounge.  I was thinking the other day that I really need to find something better to store them in.

I set about designing some storage.  I wanted something natural that will fit nicely with our tree-house surroundings, is portable and of course washable.

The end result was these woolen buckets fashioned from an old blanket in a pretty sage green.  The blanket sported more than a few holes, wasn't soft enough to to sew into a coat, cushion or hottie cover, but was just the thing for storage buckets.

I hoped if I embroidered some friendly bumble bees and ladybirds on, the buckets would appeal to her too.  If they get dirty they can be popped in the washing machine and hung outside to dry.

Pleased to say she gleefully carries the one with the handles to many a corner of the house including outside to play with her blocks.  Even better, at the end of the day all the blocks are returned (painstakingly one by one by little hands... ) to the bucket which then sits in her little corner of the lounge next to her special toy shelf.

Result.
