Vintage Knits

March 23, 2011

I was lucky enough to receive this gorgeous vintage knitted dress as a baby shower gift recently.  So few baby items are knitted these days - perhaps because of the washing consideration, however I just love them.

So much care has gone into this little number, with beautiful detailing around the hem and a tiny little embroidered rose.  So sweet.  I wonder to myself who the previous wearer was, and who might have knitted it with so much love.  I hope they would be pleased to know it has ended up in a good home.

I learned to knit from a master - my Nanna, she was just amazing.  Sadly only plain things like scarves and a simple jumper have come off my knitting needles.  One day I would like to try my hand at knitting again. In the meantime I will enjoy this little dress.  Thanks talented person who made this!

  1. Wow, that is truly beautiful! What gorgeous detail and so nice to get something handmade with love. When I was pregnant with my first child my MIL knitted a gorgeous shawl. It was so nice to have something so beautiful to snuggle around my babies.

What a gorgeous wee dress! I love it! I often wonder if the people who knit things with such love and care are sad that their treasures end up consigned to the bottom of Salvation Army bins. How wonderful you are able to enjoy it - and as a present no less! :)
